hello again, i'm doppler radar. >> and i'm jessica kartalija. the attack occurred where the animal control officers found the dog covered in blood. wjz and derek valcourt are live with an update on the animals condition. >> reporter: hi, the dog is moved to another pet emergency hospital as the vets try to save its life and a warning, some of the pictures may be considered a bit disturbing to animal lovers. >> reporter: these pictures don't show the full extent of the injuries, so severe, she may lose her right eye. >> it has a split down the nose and to the center and down to its mouth. it has injuries to the side of its head and one looks like it's through the bone. >> reporter: the animal control responders responded to the call and the officers saw the dog bleeding and rushed her to the rescue shelter. >> she was going into shock.
she had substantial blood loss. >> reporter: the dog was inside a fence and gated yard when the 32-year-old neighbor trespassed to attack the dog. according to the documents he claimed that the dog was trying to bite his daughter and members say this is an example of why the city needs officers who only investigate animal abuse. >> we need the police officers dedicated to animal control. the police tell us that this man, the suspect has a history of mental illness and he'll undergo an evaluation and he's facing a list of criminal charges. back to you, don. thank you, and the dog is treated at an emergency clinic in catonsville.

that means that the 4th of july fireworks were out until porch america stepped. faced with a short budget, baltimore canceled the plans for the fireworks celebration. >> when i put out the budget and it showed that the celebration would be eliminated, it was disappointed. >> a major sponsor decided to pay for the celebration this year. and the shipping company also response source -- sponsored the fireworks display. >> it gives me pleasure to share our well being with the fellow baltimorians to ensure we all celebrate spectacular fireworks. >> reporter: this year's celebration comes at a time when the city will mark the 30th anniversary of harbor place. they're hoping that more visitors will be brought into charm city that weekend.

everything is good. officials are trying to verify his identity. the search teams sifted through the wreckage of the airways. they selected passports and personal belongings. the chunk of tail was all that was left intact of the aircraft. the flight had taken off from south africa and at least 60 victims -- half were dutch. the south africa is a popular tour destination and many families were on spring break. >> the dutch prime minister is shocked and saddened to hear the news air bus has an excellent safety record and the weather conditions were good at the time of the crash. investigators have recovered the plane's data recorders and that could point to what caused the disaster. the transport minister is ruling out a terrorist attack.
>> wjz-13 eyewitness news. according to the flight safety foundation, this is the 4th deadliest landing in the past. a crime that shocked chicago turns out to be fake. the detectives say a doctor stabbed himself downtown and said he had been mugged. he's now charged with felony and has been released on bond. a reporter stopped him and asked him why he did this. >> i'm not sure why i did it, either. i'm sorry, chicago's a great city. sorry. >> and the police say they'll force the doctor to pay back the money they spent on an investigation. a man sacrificed himself to save his baby from a speeding car. as an out of control car slammed into him, the man is able to shield his son from the brunt of the impact.
